
Winner of the 2003 International George Enescu Competition, Romanian violinist Eugen Tichindeleanu was born on March 19, 1981, to a family of musicians. He began playing the violin at the age of four under his father’s guidance, and, at the age of eight, he made his debut with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bacau, Romania.
In 1997, Mr. Tichindeleanu moved to Bucharest with his family to pursue his musical studies at a higher level at the Enescu high school, a renowned institution for its high level musical education. In 1999, he entered the class of Stefan Gheorghiu at the National University of Music, Bucharest, without examination. He then became an active member of the Remember Enescu Foundation whose goal is to support young musicians as they pursue an international career in concretizing. This collaboration of four years marked the debut of his career with more than 500 concerts and recitals in his country and abroad.
International recognition includes First Prize at the Jeunesses Musicales International Competition, Bucharest, in 1999; Scholarships to attend the master classes of Gerard Poulet at the American Academy of Fontainbleau, France and prices for the “Best Violinist” and Best Contemporary Music Interpreter in 2000-2001; Recipient of the Erasmus Scholarship and classes at the C.N.S. M. Paris with Olivier Charlier and J.J. Kantorow in 2003-2004; First Prize Winner of the Enesco International Competition and a Prize for the Best Interpretation of the Enesco Sonata No. 3 in 2003; Awarded ARTIST OF THE YEAR in 2004 by the Romanian Union of Music Critics; First prize winner of the International Tadeusz Wronski Competition for solo violin in War saw, Poland and Prize for the Best Interpretation of a Ysaye Sonata, and a recording contract with the PNM label in 2004.
Mr. Tichindeleanu has performed as a soloist in Monte Carol, Barcelo9na, Odessa, Vienna, Genova, Geneva, Zurich, Basel, Ulm and holds distinctions from Paganini, Tibor Varga, Kreisler, Maria Canals competitions. Performing a wide repertory, from baroque to contemporary music on a Vincenzo Panormo violin, Mr. Tichindeleanu is presently studying for his concertist degree at the A. Cortot School of Music in Paris with Gerard Poulet. Future engagements include appearances at the Newport Festival and Enesco Festival.
