During the 2004-2005 season, Greensboro Symphony Orchestra members Camille Prescott, Mara Barker, Maureen Michels, and Caroline Jones taught beginning strings classes at Hampton Elementary, Jones Elementary, and Peck Elementary. The classes gave students the opportunity to try a stringed instrument and determine if they would be interested in further study. In addition to learning how to play their instruments, students learned how to read music and about concert etiquette. The students also performed an end-of-year showcase during the May Masterworks Concerts in War Memorial Auditorium. Students in the Beginning Strings Program are eligible to participate in the Lillian Rauch Instrument Loan and Music Scholar program and the Greensboro Symphony Youth Strings orchestra. Kindermusik Programs at Washington and Rankin Elementary were taught by Stephanie Bartis and Brenda Durkee during the 2004-2005 school year.
